Cool Companies To Work For #6: WhatsApp And The World of Start Ups

Feb 25, 2014

WhatsApp is a social media messenger service across all smartphone devices that allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. It started in 2009 in California when two friends decided to make an app on the recently started App Store of IPhones. What started as messages between friends has now expanded to over 200 million active users and over 450 million messages sent a day!

This humble company began as a ‘Start Up’ company, an increasingly popular and successful form of company. These are defined as a company in its first stage of its operations. They are often initially rolled by entrepreneurial founds but in order to survive in the long term they must often add additional funding through the backing from venture capitalists.

Some of the most successful companies have come from start ups. Instagram, AirB&B and PinInterest all began as start-ups with little more than a big idea and enthusiastic people.

This week, I offer to you not a single cool company to work for (although who wouldn’t love to work for WhatsApp as it looks to this exciting new development era with Facebook) but ask the question, why not make your own? Every day, people are coming up with awesome new ideas about way to help their world. Start-ups can be in any industry, in anything that you want it to be, because it’s exactly that – the start.

Working harder doesn’t automatically mean better results.
If your study patterns and habits are off, more hours just means more wasted energy.
Smart work beats long work every time.
