HSC Trials Are Coming. Here is Where to Start

Jun 24, 2025

The HSC Trials are one of the most important turning points in your final year of school. These results will make up 30% of your internal assessment mark and they can shape your confidence, your rank, and ultimately, your final result.

Three of the biggest challenges students face with the HSC Trials is;

  • New content will be taught right up to the Trial Exams
  • This is the first time that ALL content will be examinable (compared to the HSC where you have had Term 3 to revise and conquer all of the content).
  • Your exam window is 10-14 days (compared to the HSC which is spread out over 4 weeks)

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to begin, or just lacking motivation—this guide is for you. And here’s the best news: you don’t need to be the smartest in the room to succeed—you just need to be the most prepared.

What Are the HSC Trials Really About?

    • Identify content gaps

    • Test your exam technique

    • Practice performing under pressure

    • Build resilience before the real thing

This is where you separate great “note writers” from exam-ready performers. The students who succeed are not necessarily the ones who wrote the most notes—but the ones who practiced applying knowledge under exam conditions.

This week’s blog will cover how to get motivated, get into the right mindset and take the first steps.

🔥 Step 1: Connect With Your HSC Vision

Let’s be real: nobody is writing practice essays for fun. The only way to stay consistent over the next 40 days is to stay connected to the reason you’re doing this in the first place. That reason is your HSC Vision—the clear, specific goals you’re chasing after school ends.

    • Is it a particular university course?

    • An ATAR goal?

    • A life of independence, confidence, and momentum?

Your motivation won’t come from the syllabus. It will come from you—your vision, your goals, your “why”. That’s why your first step is to create a Vision Board and make it visible. Place it on your wall, on your phone background—anywhere you’ll see it every day.

🧠 Step 2: Think Like a Top HSC Student

Top students don’t leave it to chance. They:

    • Plan proactively

    • Train their brain daily

    • Push outside their comfort zone

    • Get feedback early and often

    • Take ownership of their success

Start thinking like a top performer—because with the right systems and support, you already have everything you need to become one.

Tip: Be a “frog eater”. Each day, complete the task you least want to do—first. That’s your frog. After that, everything else will feel easier.

    Week 1 Action Checklist

Here’s what we recommend doing in the first 7 days of your Pre-Trials preparation:

✅ Write out your HSC Vision
✅ Start using your Planning Pad to structure your sessions
✅ Create a visual mindmap of your weakest topic
✅ Attempt one past paper question without notes
✅ CoWorks student? Book your Zoom an Expert sessions in now and bring your biggest challenge

Don’t wait until it feels urgent. Start now, so you’ll feel confident, calm and ready when it’s game time.
This is your moment. Let’s get to work.

Next week’s blog will cover – The 3 Non-Negotiables for Trial Preparation.

So many students wait until they feel motivated or have a solid study plan before they begin 🙅‍♀️🙅
But in reality, motivation usually comes after the first action is taken. You don’t need the perfect plan. You just need the first step.

    April Study Bootcamp is coming...
The April holidays are a critical time for Year 12 students preparing for the busiest assessment term of the year. While a short break is important, using some of this time to get ahead can make a huge difference for Term 2.
At Bootcamp, students will:
✅ Build essays for upcoming texts and modules
🎯 Practice exam-style responses for completed topics
💡 Strengthen readiness for Term 2 assessments
For Year 11 students, one third of the year is already complete. With only two terms until the HSC year begins, this is the perfect time to consolidate preliminary topics and build strong foundations.
Across the 4-hour structured session each day, students tackle English and other key “frog” subjects to ensure meaningful progress before the term begins.
