Conquering your Mount HSC

Conquering your Mount HSCΒ

At CoWorks, we often use the metaphor that the HSC is like a mountain. We break the mountain up into four basecamps – term 1, term 2, term 3, term 4. After you’ve hit the basecamps you get the opportunity to summit the mountain with the HSC exams.Β

Through building the correct habits and behaviours during the basecamp climbs, you will reach the summit much easier. These foundations are things like planning, developing grit, taking responsibility and owning your HSC, and pushing your comfort zone.Β

We acknowledge that this is one climb, one mountain, one challenge of many during a lifetime. This is an opportunity for students to develop themselves into an accomplished mountain climber. The skills, behaviours, habits and work ethic created during this mountain climb, will allow them to conquer bigger mountains in the future. This is an opportunity to learn and grow.Β

At the moment, with the Sydney lockdown coinciding with the Year 12 Trial Examinations, students are getting hit with high winds and challenging weather as they approach the summit. They need to be adaptable and flexible – utilising all the skills and habits they have nurtured and developed throughout the year to weather the storm and make it to the summit!Β

After all, without struggle there is no progress!

Join Jesse and Fergus as they discuss this integral metaphor, and the foundational behaviours that it represents.Β

The more you submit… the more chances you have. Simple.
But here’s the real win πŸ‘‡
Every submission = feedback
Every feedback = chance for improvement
🎯 Practice. Submit. Win.
One of the biggest mistakes students make in the HSC is trying to avoid getting things wrong.
❌ They delay practice.
❌ They wait until they feel ready.
❌ They leave feedback too late.
Confidence doesn’t come from getting your answers right the first time. It comes from getting it WRONG early enough to improve.
The students who perform best:
βœ… Practice questions early
βœ… Practice their writing consistently
βœ… Get feedback weeks (not days) before exams
🎯 The goal isn’t to avoid failure. It’s to use it, early, so you can walk into exams calm, prepared, and confident.
The students who stay consistent during the HSC?
They’re not more disciplined. They’re more connected.
Connected to:
πŸ”οΈWhere they’re going
πŸ”οΈ Who they want to become
πŸ”οΈ What’s possible if they follow through
Because when your vision is strong, you stop negotiating with yourself.
You don’t wake up and ask: β€œDo I feel like studying today?”
You wake up and ask: β€œβ€œWhat do I need to do today to get closer to the top of Mount HSC?”
So many students wait until they feel motivated or have a solid study plan before they begin πŸ™…β€β™€οΈπŸ™…
But in reality, motivation usually comes after the first action is taken. You don’t need the perfect plan. You just need the first step.
Start small. Just start.
