The 6 skills required for HSC success

Jul 25, 2019

Here at HSC CoWorks we live and breathe our Key Behaviours no matter our role in the company and whether we are studying or not.

Why? Because these 6 behaviours when understood and adopted are a game changer no matter our task or path.

Let us ask you a question. How well prepared do you really think your child is for the HSC exams? Do you know what it will take for them to achieve what they want? Do you believe it’s about how many times they write their notes out, how many hours they spend studying, how well they perform in their homework or how well intentioned they are?

In our 23 years of working with HSC students we could tell you hundreds of stories about the well intentioned student who worked hard, tried their best but just couldn’t get the results they wanted. So what were they doing wrong?

It comes down to how well the student has developed certain Key Behaviours and applied them to their studies. At HSC CoWorks our 6 Key Behaviours are gospel. We strive to keep them front of mind with our students, staff, parents, ourselves, developing them into hard-wired attributes which you will be using long after your final HSC Exam.

Elon Musk famously said he “learnt to build rocket ships by reading books”. Thomas Edison proclaimed that “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”. Albert Einstein admitted that “It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”

No student was born a brilliant essay writer, apt at mathematical equations, experienced at managing the pressure of examinations. The student who succeeds is the student who commits themselves to the Key Behaviours. Regularly engaging with a strong vision, planning, daily effective studying and pure determination is what will make that physics problem possible or improve their essay writing skills.

At HSC CoWorks we will help you develop these qualities through supportive coaching, planning & accountability structures, stretch & challenge tasks, improved study technique and focus.

The more you submit… the more chances you have. Simple.
But here’s the real win 👇
Every submission = feedback
Every feedback = chance for improvement
🎯 Practice. Submit. Win.
One of the biggest mistakes students make in the HSC is trying to avoid getting things wrong.
❌ They delay practice.
❌ They wait until they feel ready.
❌ They leave feedback too late.
Confidence doesn’t come from getting your answers right the first time. It comes from getting it WRONG early enough to improve.
The students who perform best:
✅ Practice questions early
✅ Practice their writing consistently
✅ Get feedback weeks (not days) before exams
🎯 The goal isn’t to avoid failure. It’s to use it, early, so you can walk into exams calm, prepared, and confident.
The students who stay consistent during the HSC?
They’re not more disciplined. They’re more connected.
Connected to:
🏔️Where they’re going
🏔️ Who they want to become
🏔️ What’s possible if they follow through
Because when your vision is strong, you stop negotiating with yourself.
You don’t wake up and ask: “Do I feel like studying today?”
You wake up and ask: ““What do I need to do today to get closer to the top of Mount HSC?”
