Mosman Daily Article

Feb 16, 2013

We were very excited to see this article in the @school section of The Mosman Daily on Thursday 14th February 2013.

The article was spot-on… Who better to learn from than those that were highly successful in the HSC in previous years and are now studying law, commerce, acturial studies and chemical engineering!

Mentors share skills with tuition program

Former students teach from experience

Who better to learn from than a person who was in your shoes last year.

This is the philosophy behind a new HSC tuition centre in which this year’s students are mentored by those who excelled in their finalyear of school. This relationship is them teamed with professional tuition by experts at Mosman CoWorks.

Lead teacher Tim Kennedy said the student mentors are undergoing trainingon how to help those embarking on their HSC.

“They all excelled in their HSC and scored in the 90s”, he said. Mr Kennedy said many of the mentors were doing university studies so the opportunity to help younger students would help develop their inter-personal skills.

Mosman CoWorks is based on a successful program, which Mr Kennedy has been a part of, based in Bondi since 1996. The program allows students to complete exam style tasks, learn the skill of essay writing and be exposed to tutors who can assist in a range of subjects including English, Maths, Economics and Science.

Students also have access to an interactive website.

Year 11 exams are often the first time students realise something isn’t quite working.
❌Hours of study.. Still forgetting everything in the exam.
❌Understand it at home...But freeze under pressure.
❌Trying hard...But overwhelmed balancing every subject at once.
The reality is that succeeding isn’t just about working harder. It’s about learning how to prepare, how to study, and how to perform when it matters.
At HSC CoWorks, we coach students to build the habits, confidence and exam skills they’ll rely on for their Year 11 exams and throughout Year 12.

When students think about preparing for Year 12, they often picture buying new stationery, organising folders, or enjoying one last holiday before the “real work” begins. The reality is that the students who thrive in Year 12 don’t wait until the first day of school to get organised. They start before the year even begins. While many Year 11 graduates spend the holidays doing a very minimal amount, the highest-performing students use that time to build a foundation that gives them confidence, clarity and momentum from the very first week.
