The Power of Spaced Repetition

Jan 22, 2026

At HSC CoWorks, we know that what you study is only half the story. How you study is what really improves results. One of the most powerful (and scientifically proven) learning techniques available to students is spaced repetition and the CoWorks Flashcard Training Game takes this method to a whole new level.

What is Spaced Repetition?

Spaced repetition is a study strategy that involves revisiting information at increasing intervals over time. Instead of cramming before an exam, you spread out your recall training, which strengthens memory retention and makes recall faster and more reliable.

Neuroscience backs this up this idea that each time you revisit a concept, your brain strengthens the neural pathway associated with that memory. Better long term retention = less panic before exams.

The CoWorks AI Flashcard Game

Our AI flashcard game transforms your own study notes into three interactive training games that make spaced repetition easy and fun.

  • Three Game Modes: Different game styles keep revision engaging, help you test knowledge under time pressure, and highlight your weak spots.
  • Personalised Learning: You are training with your own notes, which means every session is focused on exactly what matters most for your upcoming assessments.
  • Smart Scheduling (Coming soon): The flashcard game uses AI to know when you should see each flashcard again for maximum memory retention.

Don’t Forget the Pen: Mind Map Pads

While digital tools are powerful, handwriting still plays a crucial role in memory and understanding. That’s why we recommend pairing the AI flashcard game with our daily mind map pads.

Mind mapping by hand allows you to actively recall key ideas before reinforcing them digitally and so we recommend integrating the following daily habit into your study routine:

  • Spend 10 minutes each day creating a mind map from memory on one topic.
  • Then, jump into the flashcard game to test and reinforce what you just mapped.

Why This Matters

At the top of Mount HSC, it’s not about who worked the hardest the night before the exam, it’s about who trained consistently all year long. Spaced repetition with our AI flashcard game plus mind mapping gives students the structure to do exactly that in small manageable amounts each day.

Your brain learns best when it’s challenged (through active recall), revisited often (through spaced repetition tasks), and given time to consolidate (by engaging in these habits proactively and consistently, not just the weeks before an exam).

Study smarter, not just harder.

April Study Bootcamp is coming...
The April holidays are a critical time for Year 12 students preparing for the busiest assessment term of the year. While a short break is important, using some of this time to get ahead can make a huge difference for Term 2.
At Bootcamp, students will:
✅ Build essays for upcoming texts and modules
🎯 Practice exam-style responses for completed topics
💡 Strengthen readiness for Term 2 assessments
For Year 11 students, one third of the year is already complete. With only two terms until the HSC year begins, this is the perfect time to consolidate preliminary topics and build strong foundations.
Across the 4-hour structured session each day, students tackle English and other key “frog” subjects to ensure meaningful progress before the term begins.

The HSC is just one year.. It is the skills, habits and mindset built along the way which will shape your future and serve you for the next 10, 20, 50 years.
In a world of AI, automation and constant change, students need more than content knowledge for a set of exams. They need mindsets that make them adaptable, resilient and confident. If a student learns how to overcome obstacles at 17, they’ll do it again at 20, 25, 40. We’re not preparing students for exams. We’re preparing them for life.
