What Do You Want To Achieve Before The HSC?

Sep 5, 2013

Hi everyone,

There’s not long now. We’re all already looking towards the holidays,  with the trials now firmly behind us. It’s the final countdown!

Let’s face it, not many huge things were invented in a month. Facebook, for example, began as a series of really bad websites that got the inventor, Mark Zuckerberg, in a ton of trouble. But in those last few weeks, he put all his ideas together and created something amazing. It’s about breakthroughs.

A breakthrough, that AHA! moment when you realise you’ve got it, can definitely still happen in your HSC Campaign. It can come at any time. So that’s what we’re aiming for in this last period. We’re not starting from scratch. You’ve got almost a year of strong study behind you, and it’s in this time remaining that you need to build on the skills you already have and really master your studies so you can walk into those exams knowing you are at the top of your game.

So how do we work it out?

If you think about it, nobody is going to be doing anything in the last week of school. So that’s out.

If you study five days a week, for three hours, that’s 15 hours next week.

In the holidays, you’re not going to school. So let’s say six hours, five days a week. That’s thirty hours a week.

That brings us to a grand total of 105 hours before the HSC if you’re doing six hours, five days a week.

So ten units mean that you have 10.5 hours for each unit.

So for a two unit subject we’ve got 21 hours. For English – where there’s six topics – that gives you 3.5 hours to spend on each module before the HSC.

Not much, is it?

Let’s say one night next week you don’t do your study – that’s only 90 hours all up. And so on.

Don’t freak out. Strategise. Make sure you’re clear on exactly what your goals are and exactly how you’re going to achieve them.

The best way to figure out how much time you have left to achieve your goals is to draw up a study calendar: Days Left ’til the HSC.

It’s hard to get a real grasp of how much time you have left for each subject if you don’t have it mapped out for you. What we’ve been doing with our students is drawing up calendars that show exactly how much time you’ve got left to get everything done.

Here’s a template.

The April school holidays are one of the most underrated opportunities in the HSC journey and what students do in this window can dramatically reduce pressure later in the year.
For many students, Term 2 is where things start to accelerate. Assessments continue. Content moves quickly. And suddenly, there’s very little time to catch up.
The students who use these holidays well don’t just “get ahead”. They build confidence, reduce stress, and put themselves in control of the term ahead!!
The April holidays are where momentum is built.
Most students slow down. The top students get ahead.
Our April Study Bootcamp is designed to help students:
⭐️Build exam-ready responses
